2019 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR INTERVIEW

Alicia Bunch, COO of Lady Jane's, caught up with a very excited Nikki to get a good look at the incredible girl who will represent Lady Jane's first Rookie of the Year

AB: When did you discover that you wanted a career in the beauty industry?

NK: I started beauty school my junior year of high school. My high school offered a technical school program where I would go to my main school half of the day, and the technical school the remaining part of the day. It completely turned my life around. At this point I was getting in trouble in school and my grades were poor. Finding my passion in hair and finding that opportunity changed my life and put me on a positive path.

AB: How does it feel to be LJ’s very first Rookie of the Year?

NK: I cannot begin to explain how grateful I am that I was chosen for this. There is no one in the world that is harder on me than I am on myself, so earning this gives me such gratitude. I am truly lucky and blessed to be a stylist at Lady Jane’s.

AB: What interested you in being part of the Lady Jane's Team?

NK: I was sought out by the LJ management team and given the opportunity to grow. I was inspired by Lady Jane’s commitment to promotion within the family of stylists.

AB: So, how long have you worked at LJ?

NK: Almost one year of wicked awesomeness.

AB: Why do you think you were selected as the LJ Rookie of the Year?

NK: I’d like to think I was chosen not only for my hard work and dedication, but also because who I am as a person. I wake up every day and try to be as positive and driven as possible. Without that, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

AB: In the salon, you’re on your feet and dealing with all kinds of challenges. What is it about LJ that motivates you?

NK: I love the stylists that I work with. Although we are all building our own book of business, we have a team atmosphere. I always know they have my back and there is zero drama.

AB: Other than your career, what are you passionate about?

NK: Other than my career, I am passionate about my family. I am one of six kids. I fall right in the middle. I have 2 older brothers and 3 little sisters. I help look after my sisters; they mean the world to me

AB: What is your favorite product to work with currently?

NK: My favorite product would have to be manipulator matte by bed head. The manipulator matte smells good, isn’t shiny, and doesn’t leave the hair crunchy like a gel and I am a big fan of all of that

AB: What haircut are you really digging right now for the fella's?

NK: I truly enjoy doing fades. I think anyone at any age looks good with a high and tight fade.

AB: Who do you look up to as a role model?

NK: As corny as it may sound, I look up to our corporate women so much. I am all for woman empowerment and I think the women in this company completely kick butt. I look forward to growing and hopefully being as successful as they are eventually.

AB: Are you a sports fan?

NK: I’m from Saint Louis, how could I not be? It’s all about the Cardinals and Blues!

AB: Favorite restaurant or food?

NK: I could eat pizza every single day for the rest of my life and never get tired of it.

AB: What are three things you can’t live without?

NK: First probably being my blanky. Yes, I am 22 years of age and still have a blanky. It goes with me everywhere. Second being my dog. His name is Cody, I named him after a boy I had a crush on when I was 11. It was a love at first sight story when I adopted him. The third thing would probably be between wine and my best friend because they’re both pretty Important to me.

AB: What’s your motto/advice you live by?

NK: I would have to say honesty. Honesty is hands down the most important thing to me. If you live an honest life, you live a good life.

About NIKKI KENNEDY

NIKKI KENNEDY: ROOKIE OF THE YEAR FOR 2018!

Before cosmetology school, I had a lot of different ideas of career paths that I wanted to pursue. When I was just 16 years old, I was given the wonderful opportunity to go part time to a technical high school to take classes that would count for college credit. I was very interested in the beauty industry since my grandma and great grandma had both been hair stylists. I graduated high school with not only my diploma but also my license as a cosmetologist!

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: WHAT IT TAKES TO BE WICKED AWESOME

I believe a huge part of success is loving what you do. I believe I grew as a stylist by having such a wonderful mentor as a manager, and having such a great team of girls to work with.

TO LJ... AND BEYOND

I think positive energy and teamwork is what’s most important when it comes to work. Clients can really feel bad vibes in a salon. Positive energy is a rule I live by. I look forward to devoting myself to getting better each day and to set an example for others to benefit..

NIKKI'S PHILOSOPHY ON LIFE...

“I would have to say honesty. Honesty is hands down the most important thing to me. If you live an honest life, you live a good life.“
